Description:

Soul Made together with Carly from Rivarossa Botanicals invite you to be immersed in the craft of natural dyeing.

We want to share our love of natural dyeing with you in this 1.5-2 hour session. You will go home with either a lovely peace silk scrunchie or Organic cotton bucket hat and 2-3 paintings that you will create using homegrown florals. You will also get the chance to create a hemp/linen blended book mark.

We will experiment with different acids and alkalis to change the colours we are painting with. We are very conscientious about where we get our fabrics from so we only use ethically sourced materials.

In this workshop you will learn about various techniques and processes of natural dyeing through conversation. When making our silk scarf we will mainly focus on the bundle dye technique using florals from my dye garden.

About your teacher
My name is Carly Catalano, and I’m a textile artist based in Perth, Western Australia. My background is in education, where I am qualified to teach kindergarten up to year 12 with a specialty in music. Originally from Canada, I have been living in Perth with my husband and two daughters for the past 2 and a half years. As the founder of Rivarossa Botanicals, I create handmade wearable art pieces, incorporating native Western Australian plants and homegrown florals.
All of our textiles are meticulously crafted using sustainable eco-printing and natural dyeing techniques. Each piece is thoughtfully designed to ensure that suitable botanicals can be foraged for the garment, connecting nature with art. Our design process takes place right here in Western Australia, and we are committed to using only ethically sourced fabrics that have minimal impacts on the environment.
Through Rivarossa Botanicals, I am passionate about merging the beauty of nature with artistry, creating unique pieces that reflect the vibrant botanical diversity of Western Australia. Each creation carries a piece of this land’s beauty and sustainability ethos, making every wearable art piece a true representation of the region’s natural charm.”
